USA's president Donald Trump is on site in the United Kingdom for a unique second state visit. He is welcomed with pomp and circumstance by King Charles at Windsor Castle outside London.

Wednesday's schedule is packed for the Trump couple, who arrived at London's Stansted Airport on Tuesday evening and spent the night in London. Hundreds of soldiers, gardeners, and cooks have done their best to make the day in Windsor a success.

At lunchtime on Wednesday, Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump arrived at Windsor Castle, a few miles west of London, for a welcome ceremony where King Charles and Queen Camilla formally receive the Trump couple. After a horse and carriage ride through the grounds, a private lunch and visits to St George's Chapel and Queen Elizabeth's grave will follow.

In the afternoon, the Trump couple will then attend a military ceremony, and in the evening, a state banquet at the castle awaits, followed by further programming.

Major security effort

The security effort is significant in little Windsor.

The meeting with King Charles takes place in almost 1,000-year-old Windsor Castle with gilded interiors, towers, and invaluable works of art. Trump has described the invitation to Windsor as a "great, great honor". He said on Tuesday, after arriving in London, that he loves being back in the UK, which he calls a "very special place".

Wants to strengthen ties

Trump's state visit is an opportunity for the UK to strengthen ties with the American president. No American president, or any other world leader, has previously had the honor of making a second state visit to the UK.

On Thursday, Trump will hold talks with the UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
