The USA's wind power industry is now at a standstill. The reason: Donald Trump.

We're not going to do the "wind thing", said Donald Trump at an appearance on January 20, simultaneously rotating his finger to resemble a rotor blade.

Big, ugly, wind turbines, they're ruining your neighborhood.

It has also become a reality, shows a review made by the Wall Street Journal. Since Trump was elected president, a number of major wind power players have either postponed projects or written down the values of their investments as a result of Trump, among other things, pausing federal permits for wind projects.

Among these is the Danish Ørsted, which has made write-downs of $1.7 billion and also cut its investment plans until 2030 by a quarter. Trump has simultaneously been clear that he wants to invest in the oil industry instead of wind power. This has been illustrated by his expression: "Drill, baby, drill", which was originally a Republican slogan during the 2008 election campaign but has since been taken up again by Trump.

According to an analyst, Scott Wilmot, there is now great uncertainty about what will actually happen. Many land-based wind projects are indeed located on private land but still require federal permits.
