Trump promises Kennedy assassination commission

The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump promises to appoint an "independent commission under the president" to investigate murders and attempted murders of presidents if he is elected in November. Among the cases to be taken up are the shots fired at him himself in July and the murder of President John F Kennedy in 1963.

It is to Bobby's honor, said Trump when he welcomed Robert F Kennedy jr to his election rally in Arizona.

Kennedy jr is the independent presidential candidate who just a few hours earlier said that he would withdraw his own campaign and instead recommend a vote for Trump.

Kennedy is the nephew of John F Kennedy and also the son of Robert F Kennedy, a Democratic senator who was shot to death when he tried to become the party's presidential candidate in 1968.

Kennedy jr seemed slightly uncomfortable beside Trump, but said that he wants to cooperate with Trump to "get rid of the chemical additives in food".

Trump poured praise over his new supporter and claimed that they would "fight together against the corrupt political establishment and give the people power back".

One task for the commission he promises Kennedy jr is to go through all remaining documents related to the murder of John F Kennedy in Dallas in 1963, a murder that still sparks interest and fuels numerous conspiracy theories.

Kennedy is the son of Robert F "Bobby" Kennedy, a senator and Minister of Justice who was running for president when he was murdered in 1968. He is also the nephew of President John F Kennedy, who was shot dead in Dallas in 1963.

Kennedy – a lawyer, professor, and author by profession – initially entered the 2024 presidential race as a Democrat but left the party to become an independent candidate.

As an environmental lawyer, he has several times fought against large pharmaceutical and oil companies and won notable cases on environmental pollution.

In recent years, however, the focus has increasingly shifted to Kennedy's statements on vaccine resistance and advocacy of conspiracy theories.
