Upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets, and certain bathroom furniture will be exempt from additional US tariffs in 2026.

The selected goods would have received a hefty tariff hike on New Year's Day. But the White House released a statement late on New Year's Eve stating that President Donald Trump is postponing the new tariffs for a year.

The statement said the decision was due to “productive negotiations regarding imports of lumber products.” However, the Trump administration has been criticized because the tariffs have led to more expensive goods for consumers, and several tariffs have been withdrawn or postponed.

Upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets and other furniture have been subject to a punitive duty of 25 percent since September last year; that level will remain.

For upholstered furniture, duties would have risen to 30 percent on January 1, while kitchen cabinets would have received duties of 50 percent.
