Donald Trump wants to cut drug prices in the USA. At a press conference, he says that drug prices can be cut by as much as 59 to 90 percent.
The USA will pay the same price as other countries for drugs, says the President and adds:
Whoever pays the lowest price for drugs. We will look at that price, and that is what we will pay.
The President has not provided any details on how the price reduction will be implemented, but he has written several posts about medical costs on Truth Social in recent days.
Prior to today's announcement, Handelsbanken's pharmaceutical analyst Mattias Häggblom told Dagens Industri that he does not believe today's presidential order will contain details.
"We will get a lot of noise, big numbers, promises. But the way forward, maybe we will get an indication of", he says.
In the morning, pharmaceutical giants Novo Nordisk and Astra Zeneca clearly fell on European stock exchanges. Astra Zeneca turned upwards during the press conference, while Novo Nordisk recovered some of the decline.
