The President of the USA, Donald Trump, says that he will likely announce tariffs on medicines already by the end of July.
Probably by the end of the month, and we will start with a low tariff and give the pharmaceutical companies a year or so, says Trump to reporters.
A "very high tariff" will be imposed later, according to Trump, who wants the pharmaceutical companies to move production to the USA.
Tariffs on semiconductors also have a "similar" timeline, says the president without further details. He adds, however, that it is "less complicated" to introduce tariffs on chips.
Trump said at a government meeting earlier in the month that he envisages medicine tariffs of up to 200 percent for companies that have not moved production to the USA within a year.
