The background to the case is allegations that Trump should have raped Carroll in a dressing room at a department store in the mid-1990s.
In a verdict in May 2023, a court ruled that Carroll could not prove that Trump had raped her, but on the other hand that he had committed sexual abuse. The jury also found Trump guilty of defamation, after he claimed that the allegation was a lie invented to sell books.
The civil case was established in December and Trump was sentenced to pay five million dollars in damages.
In a parallel case, Trump was sentenced in January last year to pay 83.3 million dollars, equivalent to 780 million kronor, for repeated attacks on Carroll in social media.
Donald Trump appealed, but on Monday, a federal appeals court upheld the verdict.
"The damages are fair and reasonable," it says in the verdict.
