Thank you very much, Steve Witkoff. Well done. We have good news about Gaza and a few other things we are working on, said Trump at the White House on Wednesday evening, local time.
Trump has however previously stated several times that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is imminent – at the same time as neither Israel nor Hamas has expressed any optimism about the ongoing talks. Since Israel unilaterally broke the previous ceasefire in March, a new ceasefire has seemed far away.
Witkoff, the US envoy in the Middle East, has previously suggested a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of half of the 20 living hostages still being held by terrorist-stamped Hamas in Gaza.
On Wednesday evening, Trump met Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin al-Thani at the White House. The two were expected to discuss the ongoing ceasefire talks being held in Qatar's capital Doha, writes Israeli Haaretz.
