With a cash offer, the government hopes to persuade illegal migrants in the US to return home.
The Trump administration says it wants to pay $1,000, equivalent to 9,650 kronor according to Monday's exchange rate, to those who travel to their home country voluntarily.
The announcement was made by Kristi Noem, who heads the national security department, while the Trump administration intensifies efforts to deport illegal migrants.
If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the safest and most cost-effective way to leave the US and thus avoid being caught, said Noem.
She referred to an app that illegal immigrants can turn to. In addition to the promise of money, the administration vows that those who report themselves will be "down-prioritized" when the US hunts for illegal migrants.
