The American president writes, among other things, that Isaacman's previous experience makes him "perfectly suited to lead NASA into a bold new era." However, the nomination must be approved by the Senate before Isaacman can take office.
Trump has nominated Isaacman once before but withdrew the nomination in June due to "past connections," and appointed Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy as interim director.
Isaacman has made two space flights with Space X and was recommended for the post by close friend Elon Musk before the former presidential advisor began feuding with Donald Trump.
Isaacman is a billionaire who made much of his fortune through the payments company Shift 4 Payments, which he founded and is CEO of. He said after his previous nomination that he plans to leave the company if he gets the job.
In 2011, he also founded Draken International, which sells fighter jets. However, he has since sold the majority of his shares in the company.
