After nine months as deputy director of the federal police, FBI, Trump loyalist Dan Bongino is throwing in the towel.

In a post on X, Bongino writes that he will be leaving the FBI in January. He thanks President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel for the opportunity to work “for a purpose.”

The announcement comes after a period of conflict with Bondi over the handling of the so-called Epstein files, material from the investigation into the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to US media. He has also been in the crosshairs regarding immigration agency ICE's raids on undocumented immigrants.

Bongino has a background as a conservative podcaster, author and former Secret Service agent. He had no FBI experience when he became the agency's deputy commissioner.
