Trump Introduces $5 Million Gold Card for Wealthy Immigrants

Donald Trump is known for having a tough stance on immigrants, but has now presented a new "golden residence permit" to attract wealthy foreigners to move to the USA. The catch? You need to have 5 million dollars available.

The new residence permit may be available as early as "within two weeks", Trump said to the media on the presidential plane Air Force One on Thursday.

As he describes it, well-heeled individuals will be able to pay 5 million dollars (almost 50 million kronor) and then receive a "gold card" that grants the right to settle in the USA.

Earlier, Trump has expressed hopes that "maybe a million" people will move to the country through this program, and has not ruled out that, for example, Russian oligarchs would also be welcome.

But when asked who would be the program's first customer, he now responded cryptically:

I'm the first buyer. Pretty exciting, huh?

The exact terms are not clear, but the program is expected to replace another business visa. It has also granted residence permits, but with fairly complicated requirements, including that applicants must invest millions in the USA and create jobs there.
