The US's new tariffs range from 10 to 12.5 percent and affect imports from 60 trading partners, including EU countries.
The new tariffs apply to about 99 percent of all imports into the United States, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Commerce. Goods already subject to U.S. sectoral tariffs - such as steel and aluminum - are not affected.
The Trump administration is justifying the tariffs - this time - by saying that the countries have not sufficiently implemented bans on goods produced through forced labor.
The Supreme Court blocked Trump's toughest tariffs in February, allowing him to impose temporary tariffs. The new, more permanent tariffs are based on a trade law that was also used during his first term - and which meant he survived legal challenges.
