USA's president Donald Trump travels to Israel and the mediator country Egypt on Monday. There, a long line of heads of government will gather to discuss the future of war-torn Gaza.

The office of Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announces that a meeting with leaders from over 20 countries will be held on Monday afternoon in the tourist resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, with al-Sisi and Trump as hosts.

The purpose of the meeting is to "end the war in the Gaza Strip, increase efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East and initiate a new era of regional security and stability", it says in a statement.

The Élysée Palace in Paris announces that President Emmanuel Macron is traveling to Egypt on Monday to support the peace plan. He will be accompanied by, among others, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Spain's Pedro Sánchez and Italy's Giorgia Meloni are also expected to participate, according to the prime ministers' offices for the news agency AFP.

During the night towards Friday, the Israeli government approved the first phase of the US peace plan for the war in Gaza. Trump believes that the ceasefire that has now begun will be successful.

It will hold. I think it will hold. They are all tired of the fighting, he says.

According to the plans, the American president will also hold a speech in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, earlier on Monday.
