The judge ruled that only Congress can change the name of the Kennedy Center and has given a two-week deadline to remove Trump's name from the building's facade and official materials. The planned renovation, which would have meant a two-year closure, is also being halted.
The decision did not go down well with Donald Trump, who took to the Truth Social platform on Friday.
"We will work with Congress to turn over this ailing institution to them," Trump wrote.
The board of directors of the cultural center, which Trump appointed and chairs, voted to rename it the Trump Kennedy Center in December last year.
