The plane is a Boeing 747-400 that has been refurbished for $400 million, equivalent to more than 3.8 billion kronor. The gift has raised ethical and safety concerns.
"This will be the first flight of what I believe may be the best commercial airplane ever built," Trump said before boarding, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The plane is painted white and dark blue with red and gold stripes. The interior is equipped with soft carpets, reclining seats and the presidential seal on the seat belts, among other things.
The new plane will be used while waiting for two new aircraft, which are expected to be delivered no earlier than 2028. It lacks the full safety systems of the older planes.
