Putin has previously stated that he wants to see a transitional government in Ukraine, and Trump has himself previously incorrectly called Zelenskyj a dictator.
Now Trump is also threatening to impose additional tariffs on Russia if an agreement on a ceasefire is not reached. He describes it as Russia having a month to comply.
If Russia and I cannot reach an agreement to put an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I believe it is Russia's fault – which it may not be, but if I believe it is Russia's fault – I will impose additional tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia, says Trump in a conversation with NBC News.
He also states that it would mean that one cannot do business in the USA if one buys oil from Russia.
According to Trump, Putin knows that he is angry. He says, however, that he has "a very good relationship with him" and that "the anger will dissipate quickly... if he does the right thing".
Trump says that the two leaders plan to talk during the coming week.
