The announcement that the US and Iran have reached an agreement could mean the end of the war that has been going on since the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28 of this year. Unclear who the US chooses for endorsement
Iran proposed on Wednesday that the agreement be signed by US President Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at a signing ceremony in Switzerland, AP wrote.
The announcement of the agreement coincides with the G7 summit taking place in Évian-les-Bains, France. The G7 summit has been described by several world leaders as very successful and the countries as “united” in their deliberations. Trump called the summit “one of the most successful.”
“No nuclear weapons”
"They have agreed not to develop nuclear weapons, and you will be able to read that in the agreement," Donald Trump said at the press conference about Iran.
Trump claimed that a regime change had occurred in Iran - something he had previously claimed but which has been questioned.
"Honestly, I think you can talk about regime change in Iran. The leadership is much smarter and far less radicalized than the previous one," Trump said.
The agreement states that Iran could receive a substantial sum that will boost the country's economy and reconstruction - provided that Iran adheres to the agreement and does not develop nuclear weapons, enrich uranium or sabotage maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
“The USA is not giving any money”
However, it was not clear at the press conference which countries will be responsible for financing the reconstruction.
"We're not giving them any money. We're not giving them any of it," said Donald Trump.
At the same time, Trump was asked about frozen Iranian assets in the United States.
"We have taken a lot of their money, and we have frozen the money. At some point we will need to give them the money back."
Trump repeated threats of continued attacks on Iran if the agreement is not complied with.
In addition to the United States, the G7 group includes Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan and Italy.
