“On January 1, 2027, tariffs on all cars, trucks, both small and large, auto parts and steel will be increased to 50 percent,” Trump writes on his own social media network Truth Social.
Tariff negotiations between the US and Canada have recently stalled, resulting in the US imposing 50 percent tariffs on a wide range of Canadian goods.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney hit back hard and this weekend announced retaliatory tariffs against the United States, which will take effect from September.

"Start building in the United States and you will have zero tariffs. Canada will no longer be treated as a state," Trump continues.
