Neither surgeries nor hormones for gender-affirming purposes will be covered by Medicaid, the president writes on Truth Social.
At least 27 states have already banned gender-affirming care for minors. Even in states where it is not prohibited, several hospitals have stopped offering the care to people under 18, the AP reports.
"Dozens of hospitals have already stopped doing this . . . and we expect many more to follow suit," Trump wrote.
The decision applies to people under the age of 19 and takes effect on October 19.
