The dismissal of museum director Kim Sajet is the latest attack on an art world that Trump sees as hostile.

"At the request and recommendation of many people, I hereby terminate Kim Sajet's employment as director", Trump writes on his own platform Truth Social. He motivates the decision by saying that Sajet supports DEI programs - that is, investments in diversity, justice, and inclusion - which he believes is "inappropriate in her position".

The museum is one of twenty that are managed by the Smithsonian Institute. Trump has previously, in a presidential order, decided that support for the cultural institution should be reformed to get rid of "divisive narratives" and "inappropriate ideology".
