Hopefully, the launch of Deepseek AI from a Chinese company should be a wake-up call for our industries, we must have a laser focus to win the competition, says Trump.
The model has been described as at least as good as the American Chat GPT, but at a significantly lower cost and with fewer advanced data chips.
Deepseek has thus questioned the entire American technology sector's lead, which has left its mark on the stock exchange. American Nvidia, whose advanced data chips are used by major AI services, suffered a record decline on Monday's trading on Wall Street, with a whole 16.9 percent. This corresponds to a value reduction of nearly 600 billion dollars.
Trump says the shock can be "positive" for Silicon Valley by forcing it to innovate with pressured prices.
Even Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, which owns Chat GPT, praises Deepseek.
"Deepseek's R1 is an impressive model, especially considering what they can deliver for the price", he writes on X and adds that it is "refreshing" to have a competitor.
At the same time, questions have been raised in the USA about the size of the financing in the opaque Chinese system being very difficult to clarify, as well as who is behind it. Furthermore, concerns are raised about user data being stolen and misused by China.
