Explosions thundered in several of Ukraine's largest cities during the night. Russia attacked the country with hundreds of drones in yet another attack that is described from the Ukrainian side as one of the largest so far in the war.

355 drones were fired from Russian territory, according to the Ukrainian air force. It is the largest number of drones sent against Ukraine in one night during the war, says the air force's spokesperson Serhij Ignat to AFP.

In addition, nine cruise missiles were fired against Ukraine during the night.

In the capital Kyiv and in the major city Charkiv, explosions were heard during the night. The air defense in Kyiv worked hard, according to the mayor Vitalij Klytjko. There, the air raid alert lasted for six hours.

During the last 24 hours, six civilians have been killed in Russian attacks, according to Ukrainian media's collective reports.

"Only a perception of total impunity can allow Russia to carry out such attacks and in increasing scope", writes Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyj in social media, where he urges the world to tighten sanctions against the invading power.

In a major attack over the weekend, Russia was said to have sent nearly 300 drones against Ukraine, which was described as the most extensive attack of its kind so far. It was also reported that around 70 Russian rockets had been shot against Ukraine.

The US-initiated talks between the warring parties over the past few months have been followed by a Russian escalation. Russia's president Vladimir Putin has become "completely crazy", wrote US president Donald Trump in social media during the night to Monday Swedish time, referring to the latest attacks against Ukraine.
