The President said that he believes the Fed Chairman is making a mistake by not lowering interest rates, says the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

The topic of the meeting at the White House – which Trump invited to – was to "discuss economic development, including growth, employment, and inflation", according to the Fed.

The President has long criticized the Fed for keeping the interest rate in the range of 4.25-4.50 percent, and accused Powell of being slow.

The Fed did not discuss future monetary policy during the meeting.

The central bank also indicated that the politically independent line remains by clarifying firm determination to base monetary policy on a "cautious, objective, and non-political analysis."
