USA's president Donald Trump received a note from foreign minister Marco Rubio during a meeting late on Wednesday. We are very close to a deal in the Middle East, says Trump after having seen the note.

According to AP, Rubio entered the meeting, which was not about Gaza, and delivered the handwritten note with an urging to Trump to give the green light for a post on social media regarding the negotiations in the Middle East:

"You need to approve a Truth Social post as soon as possible so that you will be the first to announce the agreement", was written on the note according to an AFP photographer who was in the room in the White House where Trump was leading a press meeting

Rubio, who was not planned to participate in the meeting, stepped aside after the delivery, seemingly concerned that Trump would follow him. Thereafter, Trump got up from the table.

We are very close to a deal in the Middle East, says Trump, and left the room without giving any further details.

Just a few hours later, Trump told reporters in the White House that he may travel to the Middle East later in the week.

It may be that I will go there towards the end of the week, maybe on Sunday, says Trump.

At the same time, the president's staff announces that he will make a "routine" doctor's visit to a military base near Washington on Friday in connection with a meeting with the soldiers.

Trump's statement about a Middle East trip comes also in connection with the fact that sources in several media describe the negotiating situation between Israel and Hamas as good.

Two sources tell Times of Israel on Wednesday evening that they are already aiming for an agreement on Thursday regarding the release of hostages in exchange for a ceasefire in Gaza.
