USA will impose an additional 100 percent in import duties on Chinese goods, announces President Donald Trump. The duties will apply from November 1 – if China does not ease its expanded export control.

The new tariffs follow Thursday's announcement from Beijing about increased export restrictions for the country's extensive assets of rare earth metals – critical raw materials for the manufacture of everything from everyday electronics to fighter jets.

”It is unthinkable that China could do something like that, but they have, and the rest is history", writes Trump.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump writes, among other things, that China is introducing increased control over the export of ”almost all its products” and describes it as ”morally reprehensible”.

The USA will itself introduce export controls on what Trump calls ”critical software”.

The new tariffs will be added ”on top of and in addition to" all already applicable fees, according to the post.

In late October, a summit will be held within the cooperative organization Apec (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) in Seoul. Then, both Trump and China's President Xi Jinping will participate. But to meet the Chinese president ”there is no reason to”, Trump wrote earlier on Friday.
