The President of the USA Donald Trump threatens China with new punitive tariffs. The message makes the USA stock exchange fall.

Trump accuses China of having suddenly become "hostile", after the country this week introduced increased export control for the country's assets of rare earth metals - critical raw materials for the manufacture of everything from everyday electronics to fighter jets.

"We are considering, among other things, massive increases in tariffs on Chinese products imported to the US," he writes and continues:

"There are also many other countermeasures that we are considering."

In late October, a summit will be held within the cooperative organization Apec (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) in Seoul. But a meeting between Trump and China's leader Xi Jinping does not seem to be happening, according to the US President. Trump now writes that "there is no reason" to meet Xi.

The stock exchanges on Wall Street turn downward on the message.
