Trump Defends Tariffs on China, Says Beijing Will Bear the Cost

The President of the USA, Donald Trump, says that China deserves the heavy tariffs he has imposed on the country and that he believes Beijing will ultimately bear the cost rather than American consumers.

China will probably have to swallow the tariffs, says Trump in an interview with ABC News.

The President admits that his 145-percent tariffs on many Chinese goods can be likened to a trade embargo.

It's good, they deserve it, says Trump.

In principle, they cannot do business with the USA.

Last week, there were reports from the USA about a certain thawing in the frosty trade war between the countries, but China has denied that any actual negotiations have begun.

The US Finance Minister Scott Bessent said earlier on Tuesday that China risks losing 10 million jobs due to the tariffs, but refused to detail how the dialogue between the countries stands.

I don't think I'll go into details again about who's talking to whom, but as I said, I believe these tariffs are unsustainable for the Chinese, said Bessent.
