To introduce tariffs on an additional 100 percent on goods from China is not sustainable. This is stated by US President Donald Trump in an interview with Fox – and confirms that he will meet Xi Jinping at the end of October.

Trump accuses at the same time Beijing for the recent stagnation in the negotiations between the countries regarding the tariff policy and points particularly to China's stricter control regarding the export of rare earth metals.

On a question of whether the tariff rate proposed by Trump is reasonable, he answers that "it is not sustainable, but it is the figure that applies".

They forced me to do it, says Trump in the interview.

At the same time, the American president confirms that he will meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the Apec meeting in South Korea at the end of October. Trump recently threatened to cancel the meeting due to the troubles with the export control of the earth metals.

On Monday, the US Finance Minister Scott Bessent announced that meetings will be held at the official level with China in Washington this week during the annual meeting with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
