It was on Friday that Trump was asked about Vice President JD Vance's statement that he would not call the situation in Iran a war.
"I understand what he means. I call it a military conflict because it's small potatoes for us. It's no big deal," the president said.
The opposition's response was not long in coming. Senate Democratic minority leader Chuck Schumer wrote on X that the situation was "no small matter."
"Tell that to the families of the 18 soldiers we lost," he writes, among other things.
Iran has attacked targets in several countries in the Middle East over the past week in response to US strikes on Iran. The attacks followed a period of relative calm in the region.
