Intensive phone diplomacy was underway during Thursday regarding a possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyj spoke with Trump and Germany's new Chancellor Merz spoke with both of them.
Talks with Russia/Ukraine. "The US is calling for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire under ideal conditions," Trump wrote on Truth Social after the conversation with Zelenskyj.
The Ukrainian president said that the conversation with Trump went well, and that Ukraine is ready for talks "in all forms" regarding Russia's invasion.
The conversation lasted for 20 minutes according to the Ukrainian presidential office.
Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz is also said to have had a good conversation with Trump. The two are "in agreement on cooperating closely to bring an end to the war," says the German government's spokesperson Stefan Kornelius.
Trump is also said to have stated that he stands behind European efforts to put an end to the war, and he thanked, among others, Germany, and Poland for the countries' efforts.
