US Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan was sentenced to death in 2013 for the 2009 massacre at Fort Hood in Texas, in which he shot and killed 13 people and injured 31.
The military court ruled that he should be executed by lethal injection. However, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell now announces that the president, on the recommendation of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, has approved execution by firing squad. The timing of the execution is up to the Secretary of the Army.
