The assignment lands on former Paypal CEO David Sacks, who will guide the government within artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies – two areas that are crucial for the USA's future competitiveness, according to Trump.
"He will work on a legal framework so that the crypto industry has the clarity it has asked for and can thrive in the USA", Trump writes on social media.
Sacks will also lead an advisory body for science and technology, according to Trump.
Sacks, a wealthy venture capitalist and former operational CEO of the payment service Paypal, played a key role in Trump's election campaign to strengthen support among actors in the tech industry.
Earlier in the week, Trump nominated cryptocurrency advocate Paul Atkins to lead the USA's financial supervision SEC, which caused the price of a bitcoin to pass 100,000 dollars for the first time.
