The conversation between Trump and Zelenskyj lasted for an hour, writes Trump.
"Much of the conversation was based on yesterday's conversation with President Putin to unite both Russia and Ukraine regarding their wishes and needs. We are very much on the right track", writes Trump on Truth Social.
When Donald Trump spoke with Russia's President Vladimir Putin on the phone on Tuesday, the two are reported to have only agreed on a month-long ceasefire regarding attacks on energy infrastructure.
Zelenskyj said at a press conference on Tuesday that if the USA guarantees such an agreement, "our side will maintain it", as long as Russia does not break it.
The latest known conversation between Zelenskyj and Trump was when the Ukrainian leader visited the White House at the end of February. Then, a heated argument broke out and Zelenskyj left the USA prematurely, without signing an agreement on the extraction of rare earth metals as planned.
Since then, other representatives of the two countries have met in Saudi Arabia. Ukraine has given the green light to an American proposal for a temporary ceasefire in Russia's war of aggression for 30 days.
