The situation was discussed when Trump and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj met in connection with NATO's summit in The Hague on Wednesday.
"We discussed how to achieve a ceasefire and real peace. We talked about how our people will be protected", Zelenskyj writes on social media afterwards.
During the meeting, the purchase of American air defense systems was also discussed, Zelenskyj writes further. He has previously requested the Patriot system.
Trump describes it as a "good meeting".
I wanted to know how he is doing. I think he wants to see an end to this (war). I think it's high time to finish it, he says at his press conference after the summit.
I will talk to Vladimir Putin and see if we can get an end to it. I see him as a person who has been misled. I thought we would have arranged this easily, says Trump in The Hague.
