"We discussed balanced trade, fentanyl, Tiktok and many other subjects. President Xi and I will do everything in our power to make the world more peaceful and secure", writes Trump on his platform Truth Social, and calls the conversation "very good for both China and the USA".
China's state TV channel CCTV reports that the phone call took place in the evening (local time) on January 17. It occurs ahead of Trump's inauguration to the presidency.
We both attach great importance to mutual interaction and hope that the relations between China and the USA will get a good start during the American president's new term, says Xi according to CCTV.
Earlier on Friday, Xi Jinping announced that China's Vice President Han Zheng will attend Trump's inauguration on Monday.
The relationship between China and the USA is expected to be one of Trump's most important issues during his second term. There are tensions between the countries on issues such as trade, technology, and Taiwan's self-governance.
