When the meeting was over, the executives gathered there had agreed that AI should be regulated - by themselves.
The list of those sitting around the table was extensive: on Trump's right was Jensen Huang of Nvidia, followed by Meta's Mark Zuckerberg. On the left was Elon Musk, followed by Google's Sundar Pichai.
Opposite sat Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft's Satya Nadella, followed by other high-profile figures such as OpenAI's Greg Brockman and Anthropic's Dario Amodei - a total of 34 according to the White House list.
The agreement is said to be a "morally binding" promise to create adequate security measures.
"They will be their own police officers," Trump said after the meeting.
