The US needs Greenland - Denmark is unable to protect the region, US President Donald Trump claims. "Two dog teams are not enough," he writes.

The new statement comes just hours before today's Greenland meeting in Washington, DC.

Trump is going on the offensive ahead of today's meeting, when visiting Danish and Greenlandic representatives meet US Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio near the White House.

"The US needs Greenland for its national security. It is crucial to the golden dome that we are building," he writes on Truth Social, referring to plans for an American air defense inspired by Israel's so-called "Iron Dome."

NATO should "lead the way" to give the US the island, the president claims.

“NATO becomes much more formidable and effective with Greenland in US hands,” he writes, stating that “anything else is unacceptable.”

If the US doesn't take over Greenland, Russia or China will, Trump claims.

"NATO: Tell Denmark to get them out of there, NOW! Two dog teams are not enough! Only the USA can!!!" reads a separate post.
