Friday's development is another escalation in the feud between President Donald Trump and Harvard.
The Trump administration investigated the university last year after reports that Jewish students were insulted and were spat on - allegations Harvard had previously denied.
Trump said in February his administration would sue the university for $1 billion in damages.
The feud stems from Harvard's refusal to accept the Trump administration's demands for government oversight of admissions, hiring practices and political orientation, among other things.
