The petition was filed late Tuesday. It argues that some media outlets' coverage of the Iran war and the president's construction of a banquet hall in the White House could pose a threat to national security, CNN and The New York Times reported.
Trump has alleged that media giants CNN, MS NOW and Politico in particular are spreading "fake news" and barring it from the White House.
On Wednesday, a federal judge in Washington, DC, is expected to rule on the lawsuit filed by the three media outlets after the ban on Friday. In it, the media giants claim that the ban is unconstitutional because it violates freedom of the press.
