The figure, according to CNBC, was reported to a special federal court for international trade and corresponds to about 60 percent of the approximately $166 billion collected through the extensive tariffs that President Donald Trump imposed last year.

The duties were lifted at the end of February, and the Supreme Court decision gave affected companies the opportunity to apply for a refund.

As of July 31, the agency tasked with handling the refunds had received more than 250,000 applications. Many of the companies are still waiting for the money.
