President Donald Trump's government has reduced the funding of cancer research by 31 percent in three months, compared to the same period last year. This is shown in a report on Tuesday.
The analysis, compiled by the left-leaning independent senator Bernie Sanders, shows that at least 13.5 billion dollars in funding have been removed by April. Thousands of researchers have been laid off.
For example, the research institute National Institutes for Health (NIH) has lost 2.7 billion between January and March compared to 2024. The National Cancer Institute, which is under NIH, has lost over 300 million dollars.
Since January, Trump has driven an unprecedented, illegal and outrageous attack on science and researchers, says Sanders.
Trump not only denies scientific truths, he actively tries to undermine them.
