Truls Möregårdh will miss the team European Championship in table tennis due to a knee injury, according to the Swedish Table Tennis Association. "Unfortunately, the X-ray showed that the pain in my knee I've been feeling for a while was an overexertion", says Möregårdh.

European Championship is played in Zadar in Croatia 12–19 October and Sweden is the title defender after the gold on home ground in Malmö 2023.

Table tennis giant has just come back from China where he played China Smash and was eliminated already in the eighth finals. The 23-year-old was worried about the feeling he had in the knee and an X-ray examination showed that the worry was justified. It was an overexertion.

”It is the same knee that I have operated on two times before for my genetic inability to produce cartilage. I must think of my table tennis career in a larger perspective and will follow my doctor's recommendation to immediately take it easy”, says Möregårdh to the table tennis association's website.

”So it is with disappointment I have to say no to playing in the team European Championship in Croatia. Sweden still has a good team and I am convinced that Anton Källberg can lead the team to a defended European Championship gold from 2023 in Malmö”.

Möregårdh also believes that the women have a clear medal chance.

National team captain Marcus Sjöberg is despite the absence of Möregårdh positive to the men's team's chances.

”It is obviously very heavy that our best player will not start in such an important team competition. Now we wish Truls as fast a recovery as possible. Then I hope and believe that the other guys in the team are so good and tagged that we still have a good medal chance”, he says.
