USA is a special place for Truls Möregårdh. It was in Houston he made a breakthrough in 2021 when he sensationally took World Championship silver in singles.

And now he also got a good start. The Swede picked up the first set with 11–7, but in the second set it was tougher. Möregårdh quickly fell behind 3–8 and even though he approached, Quek took a timeout and then managed to tie the match after 11–6.

In the third set, it initially looked continued tough for Möregårdh, who was behind 1–3. But then came the turn. He took over the match completely and won the third set with 11–5 before he completed the victory with clear 11–2 in the fourth.

It did not look good at all in the end of the second set. It was really, really good in the third and fourth sets. He worked well. It was a good first match for Truls, says expert Mikael Appelgren in SVT's broadcast.

Truls himself hopes that the Swedish people follow the matches, despite the time difference.

I have been successful in the USA before and want to do it again. I hope that the Swedish people stay up and watch my matches, thanks for the support, says Möregårdh in an interview after the match.

Möregårdh's victory figures were written to 11–7, 6–11, 11–5, 11–2 – and now tougher challenges await in the pursuit of a new success in the USA, when the major tournament continues.
