Following allegations of rape, Graham Platner withdrew his candidacy for the Senate seat in early July. Democrats then began the process of finding a replacement to challenge incumbent Senator Susan Collins, a Republican.
On Saturday, former Senator Troy Jackson was voted in as the Democratic nominee. He received all but five of the 571 votes, NBC News reports.
"Thank you, Maine. In 101 days we will defeat Susan Collins and reclaim our Senate seat. Let's get to work," Jackson writes on X.
Liberal Maine has long been seen as the Democrats' best chance to win a seat in the Senate by defeating Susan Collins, who is seeking a sixth term.
