“Today, we informed CBS News Radio and approximately 700 affiliated stations that operations will cease on May 22, 2026,” writes editor-in-chief Bari Weiss in an internal message.
Earlier on Friday, management announced that cutbacks will also be made in other parts of its news operations.
According to a source familiar with the matter, the layoffs affect about six percent of CBS News.
Since Weiss was appointed editor-in-chief by Paramount CEO David Ellison last year, the media company has been plagued by declining viewership, churn and controversy surrounding a stalled review.
