* At 5 pm on Tuesday, the police receive several calls about loud bangs near Vaksala Square in central Uppsala. Inside a hair salon, three people are found dead. The police later confirm that they were shot to death and are between 15-20 years old.

* Two hours later, at 7 pm, a 16-year-old boy is arrested at his home. He is detained at midnight on probable cause, suspected of murdering three people.

* The police say early on that it is an "isolated incident" not connected to the Walpurgis Night celebrations in the city. They say they do not see clear links to any gang conflict – but confirm that they are investigating that lead.

* On Wednesday, the Prosecution Authority confirms that the arrested person is a 16-year-old boy who was on the run from a youth care home. The boy denies the crime.

* The police and prosecutors do not rule out further arrests connected to the deed.
