Trinidad and Tobago will not allow its territory to be used to attack Venezuela and has never received any such request from the United States, Prime Minister Kamala Persad-Bissessar said.

"The United States has never requested to use our territory to carry out attacks against the people of Venezuela," Persad-Bissessar, who is a close ally of US President Donald Trump, wrote to the AFP news agency.

The United States and Trinidad and Tobago have conducted joint military exercises off the coast of Venezuela twice in the past month. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has condemned the exercises, saying they are “intended to threaten” the country.
