The child allegedly fell and hit her head on a stone floor in the family's home at the end of May 2025. Although she later began vomiting, the parents, according to the indictment, did not seek care for their daughter until the following morning, when the girl was found lifeless in her bed.
The trial against the parents, who are charged with aggravated manslaughter, begins on Tuesday.
The defense, which expects an acquittal, describes the incident as an accident.
"This is about a terrible accident that has hit a now devastated family," says Jens Nyström, a lawyer representing the girl's mother, to P4 Västerbotten.
