Liverpool's star right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving the Premier League champion team he has belonged to since he was six years old. The 26-year-old contract expires on the last June and thereafter he is expected to go to Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold, who came to Liverpool's academy as a child, has taken eight titles as a senior, including two in Premier League (2019–2020, 2024–2025) and one in Champions League (2018–2019).

"What I want to say first and foremost is that it has not been an easy decision. There are many thoughts and feelings in it", says Trent Alexander-Arnold about his 20-year stay.

Just over a week ago, Alexander-Arnold was involved in taking Liverpool's 20th league title when the first place in Premier League was secured at home at Anfield with the 5–1 win against Tottenham.

"It has been a fantastic season. It has been fantastic to be a part of it."

Liverpool's former coach Jürgen Klopp wanted Trent Alexander-Arnold to stay even longer in the club and appointed him as vice team captain before the season 2023–2024. A couple of years later, however, the star full-back leaves the club and follows in Michael Owen's footsteps. Owen, also a product of Liverpool's academy, left the team for Real Madrid in the summer of 2004. Alexander-Arnold's transfer to the Spanish giant 21 years later is not yet confirmed.

It has been clear earlier that the star striker Mohamed Salah and team captain Virgil van Dijk will stay in Liverpool.
