Two SJ trains were stationary in Gällivare from 15:00 yesterday to 13:00 today. This concerns a night train on the Narvik-Stockholm route as well as a day train that runs between Narvik and Luleå.
The problems were caused by sun kinks, which mean an extension of the railway rail when the metal expands due to the heat. SJ has been cooperating with a hotel since yesterday evening and arranged rooms for "those who really needed it".
Where we have been able to offer dinner yesterday, breakfast this morning and now also lunch to the passengers who are standing there, says Jonas Olsson, press chief at SJ.
Exactly how many are affected, Olsson cannot answer, but it concerns "a hundred". According to Olsson, who has been in contact with the on-board staff, there has been a "calm and okay" atmosphere on board.
We understand, of course, that one becomes frustrated, he says.
At 12:45 on Sunday afternoon, Trafikverket announced that traffic is underway. But delays and train congestion may occur.
One can summarize it as that it was a bit worse than they thought. They are out and fixing the sun kinks that have arisen there, said Elin Sarfati, press communicator at Trafikverket, earlier to TT.
There have been delays on several other routes, since the trains are running at reduced speed to avoid high pressure on the tracks.
Most of what has caused delays during the day today and at night is a result of the temperatures, says Sarfati.
